After a weekend watching old BBC4 footage of Ian Dury and the Blockheads from the 70s and 80s, it was a joy to feature a track from major Blockhead Chas Jankle featuring Melody Palmer. Meet Me In The Middle was released last year to great critical acclaim as you might expect.This smooth little mf had me wriggling in my seat with even Dave managing a twitch or two. I am hoping he will send me some tracks from his new album as they promise even more grooviness. You can find out more from Chas’s fine website here.

There is so much to unpack with Dead Hazards – Hauling Back that it’s best just to slip your headphones on and drift with it. They have risen from an experimental, non publishing test ground of metal and madness to a more cohesive signature that they can call their own. This is the first track we have played from their new album Saline which they describe as “The album could be considered a mixture of sludge, folk rock, prog, even jazz in parts, with other styles occasionally passing by. On the hopefully more unique side of things, in places you can hear electric violin, Zippo percussion, nature ambience, frequencies from image-to-audio (artwork) conversion, and similar homemade sounds” Whatever that means we will certainly be playing the other track from the album “Remorse” in the ver near future. Lea G‘s bio describes her as “what might happen if Florence + the Machine and Orla Gartland collided in a feverish daydream” and she might be right too. Better Off Me is a great tune that charmed us both. I would be interested to hear how her Hope and Anchor gig went earlier this month. Did you go? Lea has a delightful website with plenty of content to keep you… content https://www.lea-g-music.com/ is the place so go and knock yourself out.

Finally Adult Leisure take us home with their 80s inspired banger Dancing Don’t Feel Right. Is it 80s inspired? Sounds like it to me and there’s no shame in that. The band say ““We wanted to create a track that asks listeners to step out of line, ditch their inhibitions, and give in to the temptation of doing exactly what they shouldn’t. It’s a narrative of inner conflict, desire and rebellion. The track captures the feeling of being on the edge: stuck in a moment where you know you should hold back, but something – or someone – won’t let you. ‘Dancing Don’t Feel Right’ is our way of ignoring responsibility, silencing the voice of reason, and giving in to the forbidden thrill of indulgence. The song is about the urge to let loose, to break out of the mould and do the bad thing.” So there. I’m surprised Dave had never heard of them as he appears to know everyone in Bristol I have no idea why? I can’t see a website for them but if you go to their Facebook page you’ll see they all have bears. A great thing in my opinion.
