Episode 35

Madame Claude – Happy Life, Lucy Kitchen – In My Corner, The Zealots – Security, KLOGR – White Eyes

What a start with the mighty Madame Claude sliding in with the massive tune Happy Life. They say it’s a “…. a gunslinging spaghetti western ska groove with spangly guitars and their trademark acerbic lyrics. Ennio Moricone meets Desmond Dekker” I would say there is also a dash of Prince Buster’s Gangster. They have a big gig coming up in Manchester next week according to their Linktree — if you want to find out about that and more, give it a click.

Lucy Kitchen fill the number 2 spot with a masterpiece of folkery that is In My Corner. I would venture that this is her best work so far. She is out and about everywhere and a click on her Linktree will give you all you need to know. She told me:

*I am a Romsey (Hampshire) based folk singer songwriter. I’m reaching out as I am releasing a new album next February and am looking to book a run of shows as part of my album release.

Described as a hypnotic folk singer-songwriter in the vein of Sandy Denny and Beth Orton, my music blends folk and Americana influences with the spirit of 70s singer-songwriters. Live, my performances are warm, vulnerable, and moving. My music is often called haunting folk – a sonic tapestry of melancholic melodies, captivating vocals and personal storytelling.
I perform both solo or duo and occasionally, full band.*

My new single Red Skies is out now and there is a live video here (full band): Red Skies

So plenty to be clicking on there.

We played The Zealots loads on Is This Thing On Podcast and I just wanted to share one of their favourite tracks with you. Aylwin has plenty going on including an album launch in November. Of course they have a website.

You want some Italian metal? The amazing KLOGR satisfy that need with the stunning White Eyes.

Despite the prejudices often surrounding the world of alternative metal, KLOGR stands as a band that has consistently managed to win and retain a loyal audience. With their full-length Fractured Realities, released in October 2024, the band lives up to its name, returning to the scene with an impeccable album, meticulously crafted and rich in shades and influences. New material is scheduled for release between September and November 2025.

In recent years, personal challenges and global events have slowed down the band’s activity, but the result is a work packed with more energy than ever before. “It was worth it,” says Rusty, “and we’re ready to get back on stage and stay there, with new music coming very soon.”

Since their formation in 2011, KLOGR have played international stages non-stop until 2020, touring with Evergrey, The Rasmus, Infected Rain, Butcher Babies, and Prong, and sharing the stage with Limp Bizkit, Guano Apes, and Puddle of Mudd. In 2017, the band released a video capturing the intensity of their live shows, featuring footage from ten concerts and the special participation of Art Cruz.

After their 2024 winter tour supporting Evergrey for 46 shows across Europe and the UK, KLOGR are set to take on 2025 with new tours — including a Nov/Dec run alongside Katatonia and Evergrey — and new music, determined to once again showcase their unstoppable power and energy, reaffirming their place in the alternative metal scene.

Band members and instruments played:

  • Rusty: Vocals/Guitar

  • Crivez: Guitar/Backing Vocals

  • J: Drums

  • Luke: Bass

Based: Modena (Italy)

In case you’re wondering… the band’s name is a tribute to a psycho-physical law (S=KlogR) developed in the 19th century by experimental psychologist Ernst Heinrich Weber and German philosopher Gustav Fechner.

KLOGR support Katatonia on their Winter European and UK tour, alongside Evergrey.
