Episode 36
Nick Tann and the Whole Family, Chaz Jankel, Steve Hewitt, Marvin B Naylor
So here we are at 36 kicking off with a track from my live album, Nick Tann and The Whole Family – Live at the Bedford, with our final track Can’t Stop Missing You that was lifted, as I said, totally legally, I don’t care what anybody said! There are more tracks and videos on our website plus links to our next gig at The Spice of Life in London on the 1st November. I didn’t mention it but there will be some new merch available…
The multi-talented Chaz Jankel came in next with his cool Drink of Water. What a track! And of course he’s got a website who do you think he is? He’s bloody Chaz Jankel, he’s a bloody Blockhead! There are loads of links including an interview where he talks about recording and performing with Ian Dury which is a must – see for any fan.
Steve Hewitt is next up charming us with the stunning Midnight Sun, taken from his album released a few days ago. He is the only one with blurb this week so you had better read it:
Produced by Paul West, Never Two Days The Same is an album that captures Steve’s passion for artistic versatility and stripped-down approach to recording. The new album offers a more unvarnished edge compared to his Bigger Than Words debut (2019), with a sonic delivery more akin to his rustic live sound.
Honest, heartfelt and universally relatable are words that describe Hewitt as a songwriter. Simple effective melodies drive each song through his attention commanding and soulful vocal tone. Regardless of the light moods or sombre shades of the songs, Hewitt relentlessly expresses his stories in pleasantly melodic ways. This is music from the heart and perspective of a humble working-class father, devoted husband and a man of Christian faith.
Never Two Days The Same is a richly acoustic flavoured album, shying away from predictable instrumentation and modern studio polishing. Adding dynamic depth to a number of tracks are Paul West (Vocals, Drums), Louise Parsons (Vocals), Ant Wellman (Bass) and Miriam Cox (Cello).
Released on 22nd Sept 2025, Never Two Days The Same is available now on digital platforms and CD format.
Finally Marvin B Naylor charms the pants off us with his sublime StarBoy – a masterpiece in composition, performance and production. If you love this as much as I do then you can do the deepest dive by navigating through his amazing website. This page on his out of this world videos is a great place to start.
And there we are. I was a bit distracted today as I was contemplating the fact that the working class of this country and others had been conned by bankers and millionaires into believing that all our problems lay with minorities (they aren’t called minorities for nothing) and immigrants and not with the rich minority. Hey ho… have a great week x
